Vehicle Code 26708, window by window
- Front side windows: clear, colorless film only, rated at 88% visible light transmittance or more. The driver keeps the installer's certificate in the car, and film that tears or bubbles must be removed or replaced.
- Rear side windows: any shade.
- Back glass: any shade, if the car has outside mirrors on both sides that show at least 200 feet behind.
- Windshield: transparent film on the topmost part only, and it may be tinted. Its bottom edge sits at least 29 inches above the undepressed driver's seat, measured 5 inches in front of the backrest with the seat fully back and down, on level ground; it is not red or amber, carries no opaque lettering and reflects no more glare than the bare glass. Installers call it the "top 4 inches", but the legal test is the 29-inch line, so the depth varies by car. Clear film on the whole windshield is legal only with a dermatologist's certificate.
- Medical exemptions: removable sun screens on the front side windows, with a physician's or optometrist's letter (26708.2): held by a frame, a rigid material with temporary fasteners or a roller shade; transparent screens in green, gray or neutral smoke, with at least 35% luminous transmittance and no more than 35% reflectance; never used in darkness. Or clear film on any window, with a dermatologist's certificate. Neither allows dark adhesive film on the front side windows.
We fit only clear film of 88% or more on the front side windows, with the installing partner's certificate, a top strip on the windshield, and no full-windshield film. Law checked September 15, 2026 against the current text on leginfo.

Quote
The car, the windows, the film and the shade; the price comes from the table above.
- 02
Spot
A garage, carport or shaded driveway, or an office garage with the building's OK. On the hottest days we work in a garage or full shade: 3M's automotive film bulletin gives an application range of 39–113°F (4–45°C) (3M), and Pasadena averages 9.5 days a year at 100°F or more.
- 03
Install
The glass is cleaned, and the film is shrunk to each window and fitted.
- 04
Cure and hand-over
Windows stay up as the installer says. For our 3M films, 3M's care card says keep them closed and uncleaned for at least 48 hours (3M care card), and 3M's bulletin puts final adhesion at about 15–20 days at 64°F in dry conditions; SunTek's card covers the CXP carbon film. Clean with water or a mild non-ammonia glass cleaner. At hand-over: a light-meter reading on the front windows, shown to you; edges checked; no dust or hair under the film; the certificate for clear front film left in the car.

Window tint Pasadena FAQ
How much does window tint cost in Pasadena?
Car tint for a sedan is $329 in carbon film and $499 in ceramic; an SUV is $399 or $599, a pickup $399 or $599. The install at your address is included, with no travel fee, and taking off old film is $199 for a sedan. The price covers the film, the fit and the visit.
Can you tint my car at home or at the office in Pasadena during a heat wave?
Yes: in a garage, carport, shaded driveway or an office garage with the building's OK. Pasadena averages 9.5 days a year at 100°F or more, and film has a working limit (3M: 113°F), so on those days we set up in a garage or full shade. Windows stay up as the installer says: at least 48 hours for our 3M films. See mobile window tinting.
Will you put 5% or 20% tint on my car in Pasadena?
Yes, on the rear side windows and the back glass; the back glass needs outside mirrors on both sides. Not on the front side windows: there we fit only clear film of 88% or more, and the installing partner's certificate goes in the car. We install legal tint only, whatever the shade behind the driver.
My old tint has turned purple and is bubbling. Can you replace it at my home in Pasadena?
Yes: we strip the old film and its adhesive, then fit carbon or ceramic film at your address. Removal is $199 for a sedan, plus the new film, $499 in ceramic. On the front side windows, torn or bubbling film must be removed or replaced by law (Vehicle Code 26708), and only clear 88% film goes back. Removal by car size: car window tint.
Do you install ceramic tint in Altadena, South Pasadena and San Marino too?
Yes: MNG brings ceramic film to homes and office garages across Pasadena and the cities next door, Altadena, South Pasadena, San Marino, La Cañada Flintridge and Sierra Madre, all inside our service area. The film is 3M Ceramic IR, $499 for a sedan, with 3M Crystalline as the top tier: ceramic tint.
More about Window Tint Pasadena
California tint law in Pasadena: what is legal
Pasadena follows state law: the Vehicle Code is uniform statewide, and cities cannot add their own tint rules (Vehicle Code 21). Front side windows may carry only clear film of at least 88% light transmittance (why a 70% film fails up front). Rear side windows can be any shade, and so can the back glass if the car has outside mirrors on both sides.
Ceramic vs standard film for Pasadena heat
If heat is why you tint, choose ceramic: our 3M Ceramic IR film rejects more infrared than our SunTek CXP carbon film, and more total heat at the darker shades (the heat numbers by film type). On a sedan that is $499 against $329; whether the difference pays for your car is weighed in is ceramic window tint worth the extra cost, and our ceramic line is on ceramic tint.
Pasadena averages 74 days a year at 90°F or hotter and 9.5 at 100°F or more, against 23 days at 90°F in Long Beach and 6 in Torrance (NOAA 1991–2020 normals: Pasadena, Long Beach, Torrance). Pasadena's 90°F days run 15.4 in July, 19.4 in August, 15.9 in September and 8.1 in October (monthly normals): ceramic tint in Pasadena earns its keep well past August.
