What our car upholstery and carpet cleaning includes

  1. 01

    Walk-round with you

Fabric type noted, stains marked and photographed, and anything that may not come out named now.

  2. 02

    Dry work first

Personal items bagged, mats out, then a thorough vacuum under the seats and along the rails, with sand and loose hair brushed out. Hair woven into the carpet is pet hair removal.

  3. 03

    Pre-treat and test

A spot test on a hidden area, a pre-spray on carpet traffic areas, a spotter for each stain type, and soft-brush agitation. Where the carmaker says not to spray the seat (Tesla: "Do not spray the seat directly with any spray"), the product goes on the brush or towel instead: the owner's manual beats our habit.

  4. 04

    Hot-water extraction

The extractor rinses the fibers with Koch-Chemie Pol Star, a neutral textile cleaner that Koch-Chemie says "does not leave any water marks", and pulls the water straight back into a recovery tank. Low-moisture passes on the front passenger seat, and nowhere near the headliner.

  5. 05

    Groom and dry

Fibers brushed in one direction; doors or windows open and the AC on vent while the fabric dries.

  6. 06

The dirty water leaves with us

Never the gutter or a storm drain: the City of LA bars untreated wastewater from "steam cleaning, mobile carpet cleaning" and similar mobile operations from the storm drain system (LAMC 64.70.02 B.1).

  7. 07

    Hand-over

Before and after photos, then we switch the ignition on and check that the SRS airbag warning light goes out after its start-up self-check. Drying advice: a window cracked in a garage, and nothing heavy on the damp carpet for the rest of the day.

Our process

Car seat stain removal: what comes out and what may not

Car seat stain removal: what we do for each stain and what usually happens
StainWhat we doUsually
Coffee, soda, juiceA spotter, then extractionLifts; old or sugary stains may leave a shadow
Milk, formula, vomit, urineAn enzyme pre-treatment, then extraction; vomit handled with glovesThe stain lifts; a lingering smell is odor removal
Mud, sand, everyday grimeBrushed dry, then extractedLifts
Grease, makeup, inkA solvent spotter, tested firstOften lifts; ink may not
Dye transfer from jeans or bags (light seats)Tested gentlyMay not come out: Tesla says such dyes "cannot always be safely cleaned off"
Sun fade, bleach spotsNothing to cleanNot a stain: the color is gone
Mildew on the carpet surfaceCleaned and driedIf the padding is moldy it may need replacing: EPA says moldy carpet "may have to be thrown away" (EPA); find the leak first
Gum, waxFrozen and lifted, then cleanedLifts

We spot-test and tell you before we start which stains may stay.

Drying time and the airbag sensor

Extraction keeps the water low, so seats are usually dry to the touch within a few hours. The front passenger seat, which in many cars holds the airbag occupant sensor, gets low-moisture passes, and we check that the SRS airbag light goes out before we hand back the keys. Why both matter, and how to dry a seat after a home shampoo: how long car seats take to dry after a shampoo.

Shampooing a car in LA: sand, wildfire ash and the storm drain

  • Sand. Beach days in Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan Beach or Long Beach leave sand deep in the carpet; we brush and vacuum it out before any water goes on.
  • Wildfire ash. LA County Public Health: "If ash has entered the vehicle's interior, vacuum with a HEPA filter and wipe surfaces with a damp cloth" (Public Health); we do exactly that before the shampoo. A smoke smell is odor removal.
  • Water. Nothing runs off: the dirty water goes back into the tank and leaves with us.

Car shampoo near you: areas we serve

West LA, Palms, Mid-City, Koreatown, Downtown, Hollywood and the Valley; Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, West Hollywood and Culver City; Glendale, Burbank and Pasadena; Torrance, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach and Long Beach; Santa Clarita, Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. We cover LA County outside the Antelope Valley, plus Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, with no travel fee.

Mobile car shampoo FAQ

How much does it cost to shampoo car seats and carpet in Los Angeles?

Seats and carpet together are $199 on a sedan, more for SUVs and 3-row vehicles. Seats only are $169, carpet only $149, and added to a mobile car wash visit $129. The deep interior on interior car detailing already includes it. Heavy soil and biohazard spills are quoted from a photo.

How long does a car shampoo take, and when can I drive the car?

Plan on two to three hours on site for a sedan, longer for a 3-row SUV. The extractor pulls most of the water back out, so seats are usually dry to the touch within a few hours; you can drive sooner with a towel on the seat. Keep a window cracked in a garage: EPA advises drying wet materials within 24–48 hours to prevent mold.

Can you remove every stain from my car seats?

Most spills lift with a spotter and extraction; old set stains, ink, dye transfer on light seats and sun fade or bleach spots may not, and we spot-test and tell you before we start. Which stains a professional shampoo removes, and why some stay: can a detailer remove all stains?

My kids wrecked the back seat. Can you deep clean it at home, child seats included?

Yes, at home or in your garage: crumbs vacuumed, milk and juice spots pre-treated, and seats and carpet extracted. Child seats are an add-on, $59 each.

Do you need my water or power, and where does the dirty water go?

No: we bring water and power for the extractor. The dirty water stays in our recovery tank and leaves with us, never the gutter; in the City of LA, the code bars untreated wastewater from "mobile carpet cleaning" from the storm drain system (LAMC 64.70.02 B.1). In a building garage we need room to open all the doors and the building's OK.

Do you clean headliners, for example in a Range Rover, and can you fix a sagging one?

Yes, by hand, at your home or garage. Headliners get low-moisture foam and are never soaked; microsuede headliners get a soft brush and a slightly damp white cotton cloth, with no direct steam, as Alcantara advises. A sagging headliner has come loose from its board, and cleaning can't reattach it: an auto upholstery shop re-covers it. For the rest of a luxury cabin, see interior car detailing.

Does a car shampoo include pet hair and odor removal?

The shampoo includes a thorough vacuum and removes what has soaked into the fabric, which is often where a smell starts. Dog hair woven into the carpet and a smell that stays (smoke, vomit, mildew) are separate treatments, priced on pet hair removal and odor removal. Mold in the carpet padding may mean replacing it, so we look for the leak first.

I just bought a used car. Should I book a shampoo or a deep interior detail?

If only the fabric is dirty, a seats-and-carpet shampoo resets it. For a car of unknown history, book the deep interior on interior car detailing: the steering wheel, vents, console and glass as well as the shampoo. For inside and out, book a full detail before the first long drive.
