How much to wax a car with us: a hand wash and decontamination first, a named product, shade and a cool panel, and a wipe-down you can inspect.
| Package | Sedan / coupe | SUV / crossover | Truck / van / 3-row SUV |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand waxHand wash, iron decontamination, Swissvax SHIELD carnauba applied by hand | $179 | $209 | $229 |
| Paint sealantHand wash, iron and clay decontamination, Gtechniq C2v3 Liquid Crystal | $199 | $229 | $249 |
| Polish + sealantOur one-step polish for light swirls and haze, then a sealant | from $549 | from $629 | from $699 |
| Sealant added to a mobile wash or detailGtechniq C2v3 | $59 | $69 | $79 |
A full detail already includes iron and tar removal and clay and ends with a Gtechniq C2 spray sealant; the premium detail adds a machine polish and C2 applied by hand.
What changes the price:
- Vehicle size: the painted surface, not the seat count.
- Paint condition: rough paint needs clay; swirls need a polish first (the polish + sealant row).
- The product and the number of coats: a second coat needs hours to cure, so it is a follow-up visit.
- Boats and RVs are priced per foot (below).

What's included in our car waxing service
- 01
Walk-around in good light
Swirls, scratches and etched water spots are pointed out first, because wax won't remove them.
- 02
Hand wash
With a pH-neutral shampoo, on a water-capture mat with our own water and power, never your hose, so nothing reaches the gutter or the storm drain. In the City of LA that is also the rule: LADWP requires a self-closing shut-off nozzle and "No runoff onto streets, driveways, and gutters" (LADWP), and LAMC 64.70.02 B.1 bars untreated wastewater from "mobile commercial or industrial operations" from the storm drain (LAMC). We use the same method in every city we serve.
- 03
Decontamination
An iron remover on every package, and clay on the paint-sealant package. Wax bonds to clean paint; anything left on the paint gets sealed in.
- 04
Panel prep
For the Gtechniq C2v3 sealant, a panel wipe so it bonds to bare paint.
- 05
Apply in shade, on a cool panel
One panel at a time. The carnauba goes on by hand with a foam applicator; the sealant by hand or with a dual-action polisher at low speed. It is left to haze, then buffed off with clean microfiber. The makers agree on shade: CarPro says "Do not apply in direct sunlight" (CarPro), and Jescar asks for "a clean, cool surface away from direct sunlight" (Jescar). Wax is the protective layer: polish "removes scratches and swirls", while a glaze only "fills in minor scratches" (Chemical Guys), so swirls are paint correction.
- 06
Wheels, tires, exterior glass and trim
Cleaned and dressed.
- 07
Final wipe-down and beading check
With you. Then a care card: wash with a pH-neutral shampoo, never dish soap or high-pH cleaners, and use the beading test to tell when it's time again: if water "beads up tightly, you're still protected" (Chemical Guys).

A second coat needs a cure between layers (Collinite says at least 12 hours; Collinite), so we offer it as a follow-up visit or at the next membership visit, never as a same-visit "double coat".

Car wax and paint sealant FAQ
How much does it cost to wax a car in Los Angeles?
A hand wax is $179 for a sedan, $209 for an SUV and $229 for a 3-row SUV or truck; a paint sealant is $199 for a sedan. Both include a hand wash and decontamination, wherever the car is parked, with no travel fee. Swirl removal first is the one-step polish, from $549. All our prices: car detailing prices in Los Angeles.
Should I book the hand wax or the paint sealant?
Parked outside every day, at an apartment, an office lot or on the street: the sealant, Gtechniq C2v3. Garaged or a weekend car, and you like the warm carnauba look: the hand wax, Swissvax SHIELD, which Swissvax rates at 9–12 months. The product is on your quote. How long wax lasts in general, and wax against sealant, are covered in our ceramic coating guide.
Do you wax by hand or by machine?
Both, by product: the Swissvax carnauba goes on by hand with a foam applicator, and the sealant by hand or with a dual-action polisher on a finishing pad at low speed. Either way it goes on in shade, on a cool, decontaminated panel, and is buffed off with clean microfiber.
Can you wax my car at home, at work or in a parking garage?
Yes: wherever the car is parked, whether a driveway, an office lot, a parking garage or the street, across LA County outside the Antelope Valley, plus Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, in shade. Every wax starts with a hand wash; the crew brings its own water and power, never your hose, and washes on a water-capture mat. Tell us where it's parked when you book.
Can you polish out swirls before the wax?
Yes. Wax is the protective layer and doesn't remove swirls; polish "removes scratches and swirls" (Chemical Guys). For light swirls and haze, book the one-step polish with a sealant, from $549 for a sedan; for deeper marks, see paint correction.
Do you take ceramic-coated, wrapped or PPF cars?
Yes, but they get no wax. A coating gets a coating-safe topper, because Ceramic Pro says wax is "unnecessary" and "will not bond"; on our XPEL coatings, XPEL's own. A wrap gets nothing with petroleum distillates or solvents, which Avery says "void any warranty", and a matte wrap gets nothing untested. PPF gets XPEL's own topper, since our film is XPEL. Tell us when you book.
How much does boat waxing cost?
A boat wash and wax is from $39 per foot, with a marine wax, Collinite No. 885 Fleetwax, on the gelcoat, on the trailer or in dry storage. Chalky, oxidized gelcoat needs compounding first: from $59 per foot, quoted after a look, with no minimum. Boats get boat wax, not car wax. See boat detailing.
Wax or ceramic coating for a car parked outside in LA's sun?
Makers rate a wax or sealant in months and a ceramic coating in years (CarPro: "2 ~ 5 years" for its coating), so for a car that lives outside, choose the sealant now or the coating for the long term. Shade or covered parking helps both. See ceramic coating; the full comparison is in our ceramic coating guide.
More about Wax & Paint Sealant
The hand wax and paint sealant we apply
| Our package | What goes on the car | Its maker's published figure | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand wax | Swissvax SHIELD: 40% carnauba with PTFE, applied by hand | Swissvax rates it at "9–12 months" (Swissvax) | A garaged or weekend car; the warm carnauba look |
| Paint sealant | Gtechniq C2v3 Liquid Crystal | On Gtechniq's own sheet; we print it once confirmed | A daily driver parked outside at an apartment, office lot or on the street |
| Sealant topper | Gtechniq C2v3, as the add-on and on membership visits | As above | Between full waxes |
These are the makers' figures for their own products under their own care routines; Chemical Guys lists UV, outdoor parking, harsh soaps and high-pH touchless washes among what shortens wax life. The choice in one line: garaged or weekend car, the hand wax; parked outside every day, the sealant. Protection measured in years rather than months is ceramic coating. To keep it topped up on a schedule, see the mobile car wash subscription; how long wax lasts in general, and wax against sealant, are covered in our ceramic coating guide.
What wears a car wax down in Los Angeles
| What wears it down | The fact | What you see | What we do, what you do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Touchless and automatic washes | Many "rely on high-pH detergents that are effective at cleaning but harsh on protective layers like wax" (Chemical Guys) | Beading fades weeks early | Between waxes, a pH-neutral hand wash: mobile car wash |
| Sun and outdoor parking | Chemical Guys lists UV and outdoor parking among what shortens wax life | A carnauba dulls first on the roof and hood | A car parked outside gets the sealant; we apply it in shade, on a cool panel |
| Hard water and sprinklers (City of LA) | Every LADWP zone averages above its own 7 gpg "hard" line: 8.6 in the Valley and western LA, 9.8 in Silver Lake, Downtown and South LA, 16.3 in Eastern LA and the Harbor (LADWP) | Water beads off a waxed panel, but drops left to dry still spot | Dry the car after rain or sprinklers; etched spots need polishing |
| Wildfire ash | LA County Public Health: a gentle spray, then a mild detergent; "Avoid scrubbing dry ash, as it can scratch paint" (Public Health) | Ash rinses off a slick panel more easily | Never wipe dry ash off; book a wash first, and re-wax after the season |
| Street-tree honeydew | UC ANR: "cars, sidewalks, driveways … covered in sticky stuff, especially those under trees" (UC ANR) | Sticky spots that grab dust | Rinse drips off promptly, and avoid parking under trees for the first hours after a wax |
That is why we name the product and its maker's figure, and never promise a number that assumes a garaged car. A wax buys weeks or months of easier cleaning and gloss, not immunity.
Ceramic-coated, wrapped or PPF car? What we use instead of wax
- Ceramic-coated paint: we don't wax it. Ceramic Pro's aftercare says "Do not wax the coating. It is unnecessary and the wax will not bond to the coating" (Ceramic Pro). A coating gets a coating-safe topper instead; on our XPEL coatings, XPEL's own, just as CarPro made Reload to maintain its CQUARTZ coatings (CarPro). See ceramic coating; home care for a coated car is covered in our ceramic coating guide.
- Vinyl wraps and chrome delete: nothing with petroleum distillates or solvents. Avery Dennison says such soaps, waxes or protective coatings "void any warranty", and matte film is "subject to extreme color and gloss shift" with cleaners, wax and polish (Avery Dennison). So a matte wrap gets nothing untested, and satin is treated the same way. See car wrap.
- Paint protection film: nothing with dyes, abrasives or solvents on the film. XPEL bars unapproved solvents, chemicals or abrasives on its COLOR PPF and seals ULTIMATE PLUS and STEALTH with its own Ceramic Boost "at least once every 6 months" (XPEL care). Our film is XPEL, so it gets XPEL's own topper. See paint protection film.
- Matte or satin factory paint: no wax or polish; a matte-specific sealant only.
Waxing boats and RVs
Boats get marine wax, not car wax: "It has to be boat wax", because "cars are painted, while boats are gelcoated" (Regulator Marine). Ours is Collinite No. 885 Fleetwax. Regulator says regular waxing "slows down the UV damage that can break down paint and fiberglass", and we don't wax soft, clear plastics or clear enclosures. Chalky, oxidized gelcoat is compounded before the wax, quoted after a look; the boat is done on its trailer at home or in dry storage, and the marina rules are on boat detailing.
An RV wash and wax goes on fiberglass or painted panels at your driveway or storage lot: see RV detailing.
Boat wash and wax from $39 per foot; oxidation removal and wax from $59 per foot. RV wash and wax from $24 per foot. No minimum.
