Ceramic coating in Glendale means XPEL FUSION PLUS: a micro-thin, hydrophobic layer that makes water bead and keeps dust from sticking, so the next wash takes less work (XPEL). Glendale is its own city, with its own water utility and municipal code, so LA's rules are not the ones that apply here.

1. Garages first, driveways too. About two in three Glendale households rent (64.8%, level with the City of LA's 64.0%), and more than half of homes, 53.4%, are in buildings of five or more units, against 48.3% in the City of LA. In 91203, 91204 and 91205, 81%, 93% and 82% of households rent; in 91208, 65% own and 64% of homes are detached houses, and in 91214, La Crescenta and north Glendale, 75% own and 80% are detached (ACS 2020–2024, tenure; units). Downtown and in south Glendale most of our visits will be in building garages; in the north and the foothills, in driveways. If you rent, the building decides: we ask the manager or HOA with you before the date is fixed, and on the day we need your space number and the fob, or someone at the gate.

2. Wherever it is parked, nothing to the storm drain. Glendale's code bars anyone doing commercial work in the city from discharging wastewater from "steam cleaning, mobile carpet cleaning, or from other such mobile commercial or industrial operations" into the storm drain; only "noncommercial car washing by residents or by non-profit organizations" is conditionally exempt (GMC 13.42), and commercial car washing is not on that list. So a hired wash keeps every drop out of Glendale's storm drains: in a building garage, a driveway, a private lot or on the street, the car sits on our capture mat, washed with water we bring, and the mat's water leaves with us.

3. Glendale's water rules. GWP's No Water Waste policy is in force at all times: vehicles are washed with "a hand-held bucket and quick rinses using a hose with a positive shutoff nozzle", with no runoff onto driveways, streets or gutters and no hose-washing of driveways or parking areas (GMC 13.36.060). GWP says Glendale "will remain in Phase III" of its conservation ordinance (GWP). Glendale's storm drains flow to the LA River through Verdugo Wash and the Burbank Western Channel, and reach the ocean at San Pedro Bay (Glendale Public Works).

4. Sun, dust and hard water. Glendale sits between two NOAA stations: August averages 88.9°F at the airport and 91.3°F in Pasadena, with 54 to 74 days a year at 90°F or more; LAX, on the coast, sees about five (NOAA 1991–2020 normals; annual counts for the airport and Pasadena). Summers are close to rainless, so dust and canyon pollen sit on the paint until the next wash. GWP's 2025 report gives average hardness of 140 ppm (MWD Jensen), 234 ppm (MWD Weymouth) and 350 ppm (the Glendale Water Treatment Plant), about 8 to 20 grains per gallon; in 2025, 63.3% of the water came from MWD and 31.3% from local groundwater (GWP 2025 Water Quality Report). Which source reaches your street varies. Hard water left to dry on a hot panel leaves spots, so summer slots start early and every panel is hand-dried before the sun gets to it; street trees and canyon oaks drop sap and pollen, which come off first. 5. Ash after La Tuna and Eaton. The La Tuna Fire started on 1 September 2017 at Lowell Avenue and the I-210 in the Verdugo Hills and burned 7,194 acres (CAL FIRE); the Eaton Fire started on 7 January 2025 near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive, northeast of Glendale, and burned 14,021 acres (CAL FIRE). LA County Public Health's answer for parked vehicles, updated March 2025: a gentle hose spray for the loose ash, then mild detergent and water; no scrubbing of dry ash, which can scratch paint; the ventilation intakes checked; and, on driveways, no ash washed into storm drains (Public Health). When ash drifts in from the Verdugos, the car gets a gentle rinse before any mitt touches it, and that rinse water is kept from the storm drain, which in Glendale runs to the LA River.
