Aftercare, in one line: keep the windows up and don't clean them for at least 48 hours, per 3M's care card; a little haze can take longer to clear, and the installer gives you the day at hand-over. Tesla owners: the Model 3 and Model Y glass roof is an add-on, quoted from the sunroof row; protecting the paint too? See Tesla PPF.

Ceramic tint FAQ

How much does ceramic tint cost in Los Angeles?

Side windows and back glass run from $449 for a coupe in 3M Ceramic IR to $949 for a pickup in 3M Crystalline; a sedan is $499, with clear film on the front pair included. Glass count, the film tier, a curved back glass and old-film removal move the price. All our prices: car detailing prices in Los Angeles.

Is 500 dollars a lot for ceramic tint?

Judge what the quote includes, not the number. Ours for a sedan is $499 in 3M Ceramic IR or $799 in 3M Crystalline. For any quote, check five things: a named film with its TSER at your shade, every side window and the back glass, metered glass, the maker's warranty registered by the installer, and the front-window certificate.

Which ceramic shade should I choose for the rear windows?

Rear side windows and back glass take 5%, 15%, 20% or 35%. On the same film, darker rejects more total solar energy: on 3M's green Auto 75 glass, as in the table, 3M Ceramic IR 5 rejects 66% against 58% at IR 35 (3M's sheet). Choose the look and privacy you want; the front side windows stay clear 88% film whatever you pick (see car window tint for the rule by window).

Do you install ceramic windshield tint?

A top strip, yes, for $129; its bottom edge sits at least 29 inches above the driver's seat (Vehicle Code 26708(c)). Not the whole windshield: we install legal tint only and do not film the full windshield, and a 50% or 70% windshield film is not in the statute.

Do you install nano-ceramic or carbon-ceramic tint?

Our ceramic film is 3M Ceramic IR, a nano-ceramic film, with 3M Crystalline, a multilayer film, as the premium tier. We don't sell carbon-ceramic, a hybrid of carbon and ceramic particles: our tiers are carbon (car window tint) and ceramic. Whatever the label, judge a film by the TSER on its spec sheet at your shade.

Which ceramic tint brand is best?

The one whose spec sheet shows the highest total solar energy rejected (TSER) at the shade you can run. We install 3M Ceramic IR and 3M Crystalline, on one 3M warranty card registered by the installer. How the major brands compare: what is ceramic window tint.

Where can I get ceramic window tint for my car in Los Angeles?

MNG installs it at your home, office or parking garage across LA County outside the Antelope Valley, plus Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, with no travel fee. See mobile window tinting for what the installer needs, or get a ceramic tint quote.

Can I get clear ceramic tint on my front windows?

Yes, in clear film: 3M Crystalline CR BLK 80, a multilayer film rather than a ceramic one, listed at 88% visible light on 3M's sheet, with the installer's certificate for the glovebox (Vehicle Code 26708(d)). It is part of every package, or $299 for the front pair alone. It cuts heat without darkening the glass, and the installer meters the window so glass plus film reads 70% or more.

Compare TSER at your shade, not the headline "IR rejection". 3M's own narrow-band figure for Ceramic IR reads 95%, 85% and 78% at 900–1,000 nm, far above the whole-sun numbers in the table; TSER counts all of the sun's energy. Nano-ceramic and ceramic name the same class of film: non-metallic, with nano-scale ceramic particles that block infrared heat. 3M Ceramic IR is our nano-ceramic line. 3M Crystalline is a "multilayer optical film" of over 200 layers, non-metalized: at the 35 shade, on 3M's green Auto 75 glass as in the table, it rejects 60% of the sun's energy to Ceramic IR's 58%, with the same 67% infrared, so you choose it for clarity, low reflectivity and 3M's flagship line rather than for a big jump in heat. Carbon-ceramic hybrids mix carbon and ceramic particles (Rayno); we don't sell one. Our carbon film, SunTek CXP 35, rejects 53% of total solar energy and 55% of infrared, against 52% and 61% for 3M Ceramic IR 35, on each maker's 6 mm clear-glass sheet (the table above uses green glass): ceramic rejects more infrared heat, and more total heat at darker shades (IR 5 63% against CXP 5 60%). See car window tint.

Both films are metal-free, so they "will not interfere with cell phones, GPS systems or satellite radio" (3M). Both sit on one 3M warranty card: 3M and the authorized 3M dealer warrant, for as long as you own the car, that the film keeps its solar properties without cracking or crazing, stays adhered without blistering, bubbling or delaminating, and never fades to purple; covered defects get new film and free reapplication labor. It covers the original owner only, and the installer completes the card. Crystalline carries the Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation, and 3M adds that its films "DO NOT PREVENT SKIN CANCER". Ceramic tint is a film, not a paint coating: for the paint, see ceramic coating.

We install legal tint only, to California Vehicle Code 26708. The rule for each window, and why a "70" film still fails on the front pair: how to have tint legally in California.

Front side windows: clear film only

The front pair takes clear 3M Crystalline CR BLK 80, a multilayer film: 88% visible light, 99.8% UV blocked and 48% of infrared rejected on 6 mm clear glass (3M). The installer meters the window after the install and leaves the signed certificate in the car. We don't fit dark film on a doctor's letter: medical exemptions.

Rear side windows and back glass: pick 5%, 15%, 20% or 35%

The shade name is approximate: on one maker's sheet (XPEL's PRIME XR PLUS, not a film we install), "15" reads 12% and "20" reads 18%. Darker shades of the same film reject more total heat: on 3M's green Auto 75 glass, as in the table, 3M Ceramic IR 5 rejects 66% against 58% for IR 35. Pick the look and the privacy you want; the films table above shows the heat figure for each shade. 3M Crystalline starts at CR BLK 15.

Ceramic windshield tint: the top strip only

Can you put ceramic tint on a windshield in California? A top strip, yes; the whole windshield, not from us, since we install legal tint only. The strip's line is set by the driver's seat height, so the installer measures it on your car (the 29-inch line). The laminated windshield already blocks some UVA on its own (Skin Cancer Foundation).

Why MNG for ceramic car window tint

  • We come to the car: at your home, office or garage, across LA County outside the Antelope Valley, plus Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley.
  • The film is named, with its spec-sheet TSER for your shade, before you pay.
  • Measured, not guessed: the glass is metered before and after, and the front windows get the installer's Vehicle Code 26708(d) certificate.
  • A finish you can inspect: door panels and electronics covered, edges sealed, every window checked at hand-over.
  • One price table on every page, shown before you book.
  • 3M's warranty, registered to your car by the installer, and our own: not right? Tell us within 48 hours and we come back and fix it at no charge.

Why it pays in LA: Woodland Hills hit 121°F on 6 September 2020, as the National Weather Service reported it that day, the county's highest reading on record (ABC7). And side glass does not block UVA well: in the US, skin cancers are more common on the left, driver's side of the body (Skin Cancer Foundation).
