| Shade (VLT) | What it is like | Legal on |
|---|---|---|
| 5% | Darkest; hardest to see into; the darkest view out at night | Rear side windows and back glass |
| 15% / 20% | Dark privacy | Rear side windows and back glass |
| 35% | Medium; easier to see out at night | Rear side windows and back glass |
| 50% / 70% | Light, mostly heat and UV control | Rear side windows and back glass; not the front side windows, which take only clear film of 88% or more |
| Clear, 88% or more | Near-invisible; UV control and some heat control | The front side windows, with the certificate, and the rear too |
Shade names are approximate on the glass: on XPEL's PRIME sheet, a film sold as "5" measures 4% and one sold as "35" measures 38% on 3 mm glass (XPEL). A film sold as "70" is still not a front-window film: why a 70% film fails up front.

Window tint Long Beach FAQ
How much does window tint cost in Long Beach?
For a sedan, $329 in standard carbon film and $499 in ceramic; coupes, SUVs and pickups are in the table above, and the clear front pair alone is $299. The install in Long Beach is included, with no travel fee. Every package on one page: car detailing prices in Los Angeles.
Can you tint my car at my home or office in Long Beach?
Yes: in a home garage, carport, sheltered driveway or office lot, from Belmont Shore to North Long Beach. We need shelter from wind and blowing sand, since dust under wet film shows, and the building's OK for office lots and apartment garages. See mobile window tinting, or get a window tint quote in Long Beach.
What is the darkest legal tint in Long Beach?
Long Beach has no rules of its own (Vehicle Code 21), so state law applies: any shade, even 5%, on the rear side windows, and on the back glass with outside mirrors on both sides. The front side windows take only clear film of 88% or more, with the installing partner's certificate; a film sold as "70" does not qualify. We fit only these shades, and no full-windshield film.
Can you tint a car that is parked on the street in Long Beach?
Yes, on a calm day and in shade, with room to open the traffic-side doors safely; otherwise we move to a covered spot. We book outside the block's posted sweeping hours and keep out of the wind, because blown dust ends up under wet film. Afterwards, keep the windows up for at least 48 hours, and often longer near the shore.
Where can I get ceramic window tint in Long Beach?
MNG installs ceramic film where the car is parked in Long Beach, $499 for a sedan. Our ceramic film is 3M Ceramic IR: its 3M data sheet, with the TSER at your shade, and 3M's warranty card, filled in by the installer, come with the job. The full comparison: ceramic tint.
What should I check before booking window tint in Long Beach instead of going to a tint shop?
Where the install will happen (a garage, carport or sheltered driveway) and how the installer keeps wind-blown sand out of wet film; how long to keep the windows up near the shore; and that the certificate for clear front film is handed over at the car. Then a named film with its spec sheet, the maker's warranty registered by the installer, a written price and our 48-hour promise.
More about Window Tint Long Beach
Legal window tint in Long Beach, window by window
Legal tint in Long Beach follows California Vehicle Code 26708, window by window:
| Window | Rule | Vehicle Code |
|---|---|---|
| Rear side windows | Any shade | 26708(b)(4) |
| Back glass | Any shade, if outside mirrors on both sides show the road at least 200 feet behind | 26708(b)(8) |
| Front side windows | Only clear, colorless film of 88% VLT or more, with the installing company's certificate kept in the car; torn or bubbling film must come off | 26708(d) |
| Windshield | A transparent strip at the top whose bottom edge sits at least 29 inches above the driver's seat; not red or amber, no opaque lettering, no more reflective than the bare windshield. Clear 88% film over the whole windshield only with a licensed dermatologist's certificate | 26708(c), (e) |
We fit clear 88% film on the front side windows with the installing partner's certificate, a top strip on the windshield, and no full-windshield film, whatever the dermatologist exception allows. Long Beach has no tint ordinance of its own: Vehicle Code 21 makes the code uniform statewide and bars local ordinances on its subjects, so the same rules apply from Belmont Shore to North Long Beach. Law checked September 15, 2026 against the current text on leginfo.
Medical exemptions, and what to do after a tint ticket:

Ceramic or standard window tint for a Long Beach car
Side and rear glass is tempered and does not block UVA effectively, while film can block more than 99% of UVA and UVB (Skin Cancer Foundation). Marine-layer days still carry UV: light or thin cloud has little effect and may even raise UV by scattering, while water reflects less than 10% of UV and sand about 15% (WHO).
On a sedan, ceramic is $499 against $329 for standard carbon. At the 35 shade our two films keep out about the same share of the sun's total energy; ceramic rejects more infrared, and more total heat at the darkest shades (the heat numbers by film type). Whether ceramic earns the difference: is ceramic window tint worth the extra cost. Both films come with the maker's warranty, registered by the installer: 3M's card covers Ceramic IR for as long as you own your vehicle, original owner only, and SunTek CXP is backed by SunTek's manufacturer's lifetime limited warranty; restrictions apply.
Which film for which Long Beach car:
- Parked on the street or in an open lot near the beach all day: ceramic, for its infrared rejection and more total heat at a dark rear shade.
- Garage-kept, short trips: standard film is enough.
- A long daily 405 or 710 commute in afternoon sun: ceramic, plus clear 88% film on the front side windows, the only legal option there.
- Heavy phone, GPS or satellite-radio use: either film; SunTek calls CXP "non-metal" and 3M calls Ceramic IR metal-free.
Long Beach Airport hit 109°F on 6 September 2024, a record for the date (Long Beach Post). The full film comparison and prices: ceramic tint.

A wash or detail as well? See car detailing Long Beach.
The install spot: garage, carport, driveway or office lot
- Shelter from wind and blowing sand. Film is applied wet, so dust under it shows; 3M's care guide says small dust inclusions can't be avoided without a dust-free area (3M).
- Shade, or a garage or carport.
- On a street, a calm, shaded day and a slot outside the block's posted sweeping hours: Long Beach enforces sweeping Monday to Friday, in posted windows between 5:00 AM and 4:00 PM that vary by block and side (City of Long Beach).
- Office lots, apartment garages and parking structures need the owner's or building's OK.
The full process: mobile window tinting.
Keeping the windows up near the coast
- Keep the windows up for at least 48 hours, as 3M's care guide says for our 3M films; SunTek's card covers CXP. Haze can take longer to clear by the shore.
- Under a morning marine layer the air is often saturated (NWS), and film dries more slowly in humid, cooler conditions (3M), so plan on the longer end. We don't promise a number of days for Long Beach.
- Clean with a damp microfiber towel or a mild non-ammonia glass cleaner.
