Car detailing cost FAQ

How much does car detailing cost in Los Angeles?

A maintenance detail is $119 for a sedan, a full detail inside and out $249 and a premium detail $449. A full detail is $279 for an SUV and $299 for a truck, van or 3-row SUV, about four hours on site. Interior-only ($189) and exterior-only ($229) cost less when that is all the car needs. More on the full car cleaning service.

Do mobile detailers charge a travel fee in Los Angeles?

Not with us: every price includes coming to your home, office or garage across LA County outside the Antelope Valley, plus Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley, with our own water and power, and there is no minimum. California requires an advertised price to include every mandatory fee except government taxes (Civil Code 1770(a)(29)), so a trip charge you can't avoid should already be in the price you're shown.

How much should I tip on a 200-dollar car detail?

If you choose to tip, 15–20% is 30 to 40 dollars. Tipping is optional and never added to a MNG bill; the range is the one the Emily Post Institute gives for salon and spa services, since its guide has no detailing entry. Tip more for heavy pet hair, sand or stains; nothing is expected if something wasn't right: tell us within 48 hours and we come back and fix it at no charge.

What is the cheapest way to get a good car detail in LA?

Doing it yourself, or a tunnel wash, costs least, but neither is a detail. With us, the entry package is the maintenance detail at $119: hand wash, wheels and tires, glass inside and out, door jambs, and an interior vacuum and wipe-down. Over a year, book interior-only or exterior-only when that is all the car needs, add extras in the same visit, and keep the car on a schedule: membership plans are from $119 a month.

Can I see a real price before I book a mobile detailer in LA?

Yes: the booking shows one all-in price for your package and car size before you confirm. To compare any detailer, whether a marketplace or an independent, check four things: a price for your car's size, a written list of what's included, named add-on charges, and no fee added at checkout.

Is mobile detailing cheaper than taking the car to a shop?

Not by itself. A shop's price leaves out your drive there and back and the hours the car is gone, while a mobile price includes the trip, the water and the power. Compare the same package for the same car size, and count your time. Our full detail is $249 for a sedan, at your home, office or garage.

Does detailing a Porsche or other exotic car cost more?

No: it is priced by size like any car, a 911 in the coupe column and a Cayenne in the SUV column, and matte, satin and film-covered paint gets matte-safe products at no extra charge. A collector car or a special request is quoted. Many owners choose the premium detail ($449) and protect the paint with ceramic coating or paint protection film.

Why is car detailing so expensive?

Because the price buys hours of hand work, about four for a full detail, against minutes for a tunnel wash, and a mobile price also covers the van, the water, the power and the travel. Why that adds up, and when it pays: is detailing a car worth it?

More about car detailing prices

What changes the price: size, condition and pet hair

Three things set car detailing cost: the package, your vehicle's size and its condition. Size decides the column. Condition only adds to the price when the car needs extra work, such as embedded pet hair, stains, odors, beach sand or wildfire ash, and we agree that price from photos before we book.

Vehicle size

Which column your car is in: detailing, wash, protection and wrap prices
ColumnExample vehicles
Sedan / coupeTesla Model 3, BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, Porsche 911
SUV / crossover (two rows)Tesla Model Y, Lexus RX, BMW X5, Porsche Macan, Kia Sportage
Truck / van / 3-row SUVFord F-150, Cadillac Escalade, Chevrolet Tahoe, Toyota Sienna, Rivian R1S

Exotic, collector, matte-wrapped and PPF-covered cars are priced by size like any car; a special request is quoted. Car detailing is priced per visit, not per hour. Window tint is priced by glass and uses its own classes (coupe, sedan, SUV or minivan, pickup), so a minivan sits in a different column on the tint pages.

Preparing the car: take out what you need, and tell us about pet hair, stains or smells when you book, with a photo. That is how the price you book is the price you pay.

What is always in the price

  1. Pick the package and your car's size at /book; for pet hair, stains, sand or ash, add a photo.
  2. We confirm one all-in price before you book.
  3. The crew comes to you with its own water and power, and takes walkaround photos before it starts.
  4. You pay after the work: the card is saved at booking and charged after the job. A tip is optional.
  • No fee added at checkout. Every mandatory charge is in the price you see: coming to you, water, power and products, with no travel fee and no minimum inside the service area. California requires it: Civil Code 1770(a)(29), in force since 1 July 2024, bars showing a price that leaves out mandatory fees (leginfo), and the Attorney General says the price "must be the full price that the consumer is required to pay" (Attorney General).
  • Only you add to it: the add-ons you choose, and any condition work agreed from photos before booking.

How long each package takes

How long a car detail takes, as time on site: the hours the car stays where it is parked. You don't need to stay: hand over the keys, and we send photos when it's done.

Car detailing is priced per visit, not per hour, so a longer visit for the same package costs the same; only add-ons and condition work agreed before booking change the price.

Do you tip car detailers? Tipping at MNG

Tipping a car detailer is optional, and it is never added to your MNG bill. If you want to tip, 15–20% of the price is a common guide, the range the Emily Post Institute gives for salon and spa services (Emily Post): 15 to 20 dollars for every 100. Tips go to the crew who did the work.

  • When people tip more: heavy pet hair, sand or stains that took longer; a same-day or early slot; a car handed back for a special occasion; a crew that fixed something you didn't ask about.
  • When it's fine not to tip: when something isn't right, tell us instead, and we come back within 48 hours and fix it at no charge. When the person who details your car owns the business, it's your choice either way.
  • Project work (ceramic coating, PPF, window tint, wraps, dent repair) is priced as a project, and a tip is optional there too.
  • Why tips aren't in our prices: tips are voluntary. California's price law covers mandatory charges only, and the Attorney General's guidance says it does not affect tips or gratuities, since they are not mandatory.

Membership or one-off detail: how the prices compare

What's includedThe package you bookThe maintenance visit
SchedulingYou book each timeA standing slot on your plan

A membership is the same maintenance visit on a fixed schedule, weekly, every two weeks or monthly, priced by car size; a one-off suits a first deep clean, a car being sold, a road trip, a spill or a car that is rarely driven. See the mobile car wash subscription. How often a car needs it is covered in our car detailing guide.

Paying only for what your car needs

  • Keep the car on a schedule, so every visit is a maintenance visit, not a restoration with condition add-ons.
  • Book only what the car needs: interior-only or exterior-only rather than a full detail.
  • Add extras in the same visit rather than booking twice; there is no per-visit minimum.
  • Book before it gets bad: pet hair, stains and sand cost more the longer they sit.
