Inspect
The paint is checked under a light with you, the correction level is agreed, and photos are taken.

Decontamination wash
pH-neutral shampoo, iron remover, tar remover and clay, on a water-capture mat.

Machine polish
A one-step polish is included; a two-step paint correction with the coating is a bundle priced on that page. The coating seals in whatever is under it, so the paint gets at least one step.

Panel wipe
Polishing oils are stripped so the coating bonds to bare clear coat.

Apply and level
Panel by panel, in shade and inside the product's temperature range, then every panel is checked for high spots under a light. The maker's warranty doesn't cover high spots; our 48-hour guarantee does.

First cure
XPEL says a FUSION PLUS car is ready for the road in about 3–4 hours. Keep it dry the first night: no rain, fog or sprinklers.

Why ceramic coating quotes in LA vary so much
- Surface area: the size of the car.
- Paint condition: it sets the level of correction, the biggest labor variable. Ceramic Pro, for one, requires a machine polish on any car over 3 months old before its coating goes on.
- The product and its conditions: a "lifetime" or multi-year coating usually carries paid annual inspections, so compare the cost over the years you will keep the car.
- What gets coated: wheels, glass, trim and film.

Mobile ceramic coating at your home, office or parking garage
Mobile ceramic coating service means the coating comes to the car. What we need:
- the car wherever it is parked (a driveway, a home garage, an office lot, a parking garage or the street), with shade or cover for the application; a garage is ideal;
- a dry first night. In the City of LA outdoor watering is banned from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (LADWP), so sprinklers run at night and early morning: switch off the zone near the car until the next day.
The pre-coating wash follows LADWP's rules: "No washing vehicles without using a hose with a self-closing water shut-off nozzle" and "No runoff onto streets, driveways, and gutters" (LADWP). We go further: the crew brings its own water and power, never uses your hose, and washes on a water-capture mat, so nothing reaches the gutter or the storm drain. Outside the City of LA we use the same mat.

What it is: "ceramic", "nano-ceramic" and "SiO2" name one class of product, a liquid silica-based coating that cures into a thin, hard, water-repelling layer on the clear coat.
What "9H" means: a pencil-hardness grade (ASTM D3363) for the cured film, not scratch or chip resistance on your car: does ceramic coating prevent scratches or rock chips. Chips are what paint protection film is for.
What "4-year" means: a warranty term, held only with the maker's care rules and an annual inspection. How long a coating really looks new is a question for our ceramic coating guide. Headlight ceramic coating
Factory lenses carry a UV-cured hard coat; restoration sands it off, so the lens needs a new UV-resistant topcoat. Headlight restoration already ends with one, and the coating add-on goes over it for easier cleaning.
Ceramic coating for PPF
A coating on film has to be one the film maker accepts: ours over film is XPEL FUSION PLUS, the maker's own coating for the XPEL paint protection film we install, $349. The same rule applies to a car wrap. Which goes on first: doing both, PPF or ceramic coating.
RV, boat and motorcycle ceramic coating
Fiberglass RVs and boats are finished in gelcoat, and gelcoat chalks in the sun: "Sunlight, heat and moist air combine to oxidize the gelcoat surface, fading it and making the surface cloudy" (Crane Composites). A coating seals in whatever is under it, so chalky gelcoat is compounded and polished first, as in our RV oxidation removal: on a test spot, out of direct sun, and only as far as the oxidation goes. How chalky it is moves the quote.
- Where we do it: an RV where it is kept, in the driveway, a storage lot or an RV park, with the lot's or park's permission. A boat on its trailer, at home or in a dry-storage yard, because the gelcoat is machine-compounded first; in a slip, Marina del Rey allows only normal wash-downs, Long Beach's city marinas only hand washing, and other marinas set their own rules (boat detailing).
- Priced per foot of length: an RV is from $125 per foot, so a 30-foot motorhome starts at 30 times that rate; a boat is from $129 per foot, so a 20-foot boat starts at 20 times it. A motorcycle is priced per bike, from $749: motorcycle detailing.
