1. Two kinds of address: driveways and garages. In 91364, south of the 101 and Ventura Boulevard, 71% of households own their home and 74% of homes are detached houses; in 91367, mostly north of the 101 and including Warner Center, 55% rent, 52% of homes are in buildings of five or more units and about half in buildings of ten or more (ACS 2020–2024, tenure; units). South of the Boulevard we will mostly work in driveways, and many of those streets have an HOA: if yours sets rules for contractors or for washing, tell us and we plan the visit to them. In Warner Center it is building garages, booked once the property manager agrees.

2. The mat, wherever the car is parked. South of the Boulevard that is usually your driveway, in Warner Center your building's garage, and sometimes the street outside. Each time the car stands on our water-capture mat and we bring the water, so nothing runs down the gutter toward the storm drain.

3. Water rules. LADWP's permanent prohibitions bar washing a vehicle without a hose with a self-closing shut-off nozzle, runoff onto streets, driveways and gutters, and watering hard surfaces such as driveways or parking areas (LADWP). The Water Board notes that "in most cases, stormwater flows directly to water bodies through separate storm sewer systems" (Water Board). The mat under the car and our own water, never your hose, keep a sloped driveway or a garage floor dry.

4. Heat and hard water. Pierce College's August average high is 97.4°F, against 93.1°F at Van Nuys and 76.7°F at LAX, with about 115 days a year at 90°F or more and about 36 at 100°F or more (NOAA 1991–2020 normals). On 6 September 2020 Woodland Hills hit 121°F, as the National Weather Service reported it that day (ABC7). June to September brings about a fifth of an inch of rain, so dust stays on the car until it is washed. LADWP's San Fernando Valley and Western LA zone averaged 8.6 grains per gallon of hardness in 2022, and LADWP's own FAQ names fewer spots on air-dried automobile finishes as a benefit of softened water (LADWP). On our visits the towel follows the rinse, panel by panel; etched spots are water spot removal.

5. After the Kenneth Fire. The Kenneth Fire started on 9 January 2025 off Victory Boulevard in West Hills, next to Woodland Hills, and burned 1,052 acres in LA and Ventura counties (CAL FIRE). LA County Public Health's advice for vehicles: a gentle hose spray to remove loose ash, then mild detergent and water, no scrubbing dry ash, the ventilation intakes checked, and a HEPA vacuum for an ash-filled interior (Public Health). So ash on a car parked in the open is floated off with low-pressure water first; the shampoo and the mitt come after, and the mat keeps it all out of the gutter.
